Virgin Mobile loses two top executives

LONDON: Two founding members of Virgin Mobile have decided to leave the company a year after it was acquired and integrated into the Virgin Media cable television business.

Alan Gow, the managing director of Virgin Mobile, and Joe Steel, the deputy managing director and commercial director, will exit the mobile phone services provider eight years after helping to establish the UK's first "virtual" network operator.

The executives were the only remaining founding members of the business to have stayed on after Telewest completed its acquisition of the company last year, and have presided over the integration of the mobile phone operator into the rebranded Virgin Media business.

The exits come at a critical time for Virgin Media. The company is embroiled in a bitter battle with Sky over carriage fees and has struggled in the fixed-line telecoms market due to intense competition.
